THE CONCEPT
Many businesses that started out as a single outlet, later set up shops in multiple locations statewide, then nationally, and eventually in international markets. A prime example of this is Starbucks, which began with a single store in Seattle…and is now in practically every country in the world. Once the basic business model is refined, it can be exported to practically anywhere in the world.
I am currently on a quest to find businesses that are in expansion mode and that are prime candidates for moving into international mode.
Making the process as low risk and cost efficient as possible when expanding internationally and having the skills to do this are of prime importance.
I am screening businesses that have a good potential for expansion into the international arena.
That is where the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico comes in. With its close proximity to parts of the U.S. and its popularity as an international travel destination, a leap to that region really makes sense as a jumping-off point for international expansion for a U.S. based business.
Opening a single outlet in the region is an amazing risk managed way to verify market viability …and will serve as a springboard for multiple outlets in this traveler rich area. Starbucks is there already along with many other US based businesses.
Mexico and the Riviera Maya
You have probably experienced this amazingly beautiful part of Mexico. If not, you need to go. It is a short flight from Texas and has an inviting tropical climate with white sand beaches and crystal-clear waters of the Caribbean. Plus, many archeological sites of interest dot the region from when the Maya city states were occupying the area. This makes it an ideal, lower risk starting off point for expansion of a
business. Other U.S. based businesses have already figured this out, including Starbucks and the Hard Rock Cafe.
Riviera Maya
Starting from the fishing village of Puerto Morelos and rolling down to the biosphere reserve of Sian Ka’an, the Riviera Maya covers an impressive stretch of Caribbean coastline. It’s a point of embarkation for popular spots like Cancun, Tulum, Isla Mujeres, and Holbox Island—so no matter what you’re looking for, there’s a beach for every vibe. There are sacred ruins and deep-blue cenotes to explore, plus, the area’s diving and snorkeling are next level, especially at Xcaret and the Puerto Morelos Reef. For party people, Carnival season is a big draw with parades, dancing, and elaborate costumes. And there’s plenty for families, too, including water parks and zoos.
The Maya Train/ Tren Maya
There is now an added incentive for making a move to the Yucatan,
the construction of the Maya Train/ Tren Maya, designed to circumnavigate the entire Yucatan Peninsula will attract even more travelers, making setting up shop in this tropical destination even more alluring. You do not need to be a psychic to see the implications of this for food and drink outlets all over the region. After becoming established, with a few outlets in the Maya Riviera, other stores can easily be opened along the train route to serve thirsty travelers as they make their way around the Yucatan.
The Tren Maya, or in English, the Maya Train will have stops at numerous tourist destinations in the Yucatan, including the popular beaches, resorts, archeological sites, and other points of interest. It is easy to visualize a Juiceland or Jugolandia at many of the train stops as well as locations at many of the attractions serviced by the train.
Once the viability of setting up shop in the Yucatan is established, it will be time to conquer Mexico’s Pacific Coast and Baja California.

Imagine the income from one test outlet and then envision the income from ten or more…
